As-Souq works at enhancing the learning of the Arabic through calligraphy. It is but one of the insights into the culture of the Arab World with the aim to enhance the appreciation for the language. Currently, students can choose 3 types of calligraphy scripts to learn namely; Naskh, Maghribi and Diwani. Each of these are unique in their own areas of disciplines.
The Maghribi script was developed in Morocco and has been widely use in the western part of Africa. It has the influence of Kufic script; the earliest script in the Islamic world.
The Naskh script is the fundamental to all other forms of cursive Arabic scripts. It is one of the prime classical master-script, and also the foundation for 6 classical master pens.
Diwani is a calligraphic variety of Arabic script, a cursive style developed during the reign of the early Ottoman Turks (16th century - early 17th century).
